Saving the planet because grown ups can’t

Today, in an effort to come up with another creative lockdown activity, I took the kids on an hour-long walk around the neighbourhood to pick up rubbish.

This idea was sparked by yesterday’s spontaneous adventure. In between back-to-back Zoom meetings, there came that moment that many of us know too well:

  • I can’t bear any more of my soul being sucked into my 13-inch screen at the dining room table.
  • The kids are seriously losing it and need to get outside. I guess it’s my turn.

So I designed the world’s greatest treasure books for a quick boost around the neighbourhood.

They each got their own copy. That’s how legit this was.

And off we went with their halloween bags to collect different coloured crap, along with some other random things my Zoomed-out brain made up on the spot.

But I quickly ran into a challenge, something I didn’t plan for. They kept wanting to add rubbish beyond the three pieces allocated by their treasure books (no! you already have three things of…
